U.S. Peace Corps

The Peace Corps is a service opportunity funded by the U.S. government for motivated changemakers to immerse themselves in a community abroad, working with local leaders to tackle the most pressing challenges of our generation. In Lesotho, over 130 volunteers work with their communities on projects in education and health. At Paray, volunteers from the Healthy Youth project work side-by-side with hospital staff to design and implement new programs and activities for youth living in the Thaba-Tseka community.

 Emma McEvoy, MSc, engages in proposal and grant writing for Paray Hospital, providing new funding opportunities for increased healthcare services. In addition, Emma works with committees and departments to streamline policies and overall hospital operations. She is also active in the NGO community in the Thaba-Tseka district, encouraging collaboration and strengthening of district-wide activities. Emma is a graduate of KU Leuven, SciencesPo Paris, and  London South Bank University.

 

 

 

 Ryan Toney is coordinator for the Adolescent Health Department, designing and implementing activities and projects to affect the health and health knowledge of Thaba-Tseka youth and their caregivers, teachers, and communities. Ryan is focused on engaging communities in strengthening already-existing resources through peer-educator training, teacher training, and designing programs for out-of-school youth and other key populations. Ryan also takes part in proposal and grant writing, especially in order to strengthen health services for adolescents. Ryan is a graduate of the George Washington University.

 

 

Weltwärts

 Bianca Klee, Weltwärts is a volunteer service supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Young people between 18 and 28 can apply for development projects to support host organizations and assume their own responsibilities. Weltwärts focuses on joint intercultural training and volunteers abroad gain professional as well as personal experience. Bianca Klee, MPH, is supporting the medical team at Paray in monitoring and evaluation across hospital departments, and is helping to strengthen hospital systems and improve quality care. Bianca is a graduate from XXX.
