Paray Mission Hospital is a Roman Catholic Church Health Facility situated at the administration center of Thaba-Tseka District. It is under the leadership of the Archbishop of Maseru, run by the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa in collaboration with Christian Health Association of Lesotho (CHAL), to provide accessible, affordable holistic quality health care to all people.

Job Summary:
As a Registered Nurse Midwife at Paray Mission Hospital, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive, compassionate care to expectant mothers, newborns, and families while also fulfilling general nursing duties. This role involves managing prenatal, childbirth, and postnatal care, ensuring safe delivery practices, and supporting women’s health needs. In addition to midwifery care, you will provide general nursing care to patients, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and offer holistic support across various departments when required. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you will help deliver high-quality maternal, neonatal, and general patient care in alignment with hospital protocols and best practices.
Key Duties.
- Take report from the night staff, keeping in mind that: physical rounds with the night staff to see all critically ill patients, new admission, pre- and post-operative cases is important.
- Assign subordinates day-to-day duties: dressing wounds, administration of oral and parenteral medications, fluid balance, chart updating, care of pressure parts, feeding of helpless patients, preparation of patients preoperatively, admission and discharge, monitoring of vital signs and post-operative care and during emergencies.
- Check all charts to see to it that they are updated, e.g. bowl movements, weights, temperatures, post-operative days, hospital number and any unusual occurrences such as fits, vomiting, urine retention, abdominal distension, diarrhea, oedema and severe pain that are not relieved by sedation.
- Ensure that able patients maintain their own personal hygiene and that immobile patients are properly bathed and cleaned by the staff: ensure that linen e.g. Sheets, pajamas and night dress are changed frequently enough to maintain hygiene at least twice a week.
- Take into consideration all patients’ problems that need to be reported immediately to the Medical Officer on duty, e.g. Change in patients’ condition, laboratory results and other observation.
- Ensure that all M.O orders are carried out by allocating a nurse or ward attendant.
- Keep on checking unconscious, critically patients and on traction regularly to exclude bed sores
- Accompany M.O and/or SNO to the wards round and give full report about patients, asking questions when necessary for clarification. Notify M.O about the courses of antibiotics patients are having.
- Orientate new personnel to the job requirements, to the ward personnel and surroundings, and to any equipment or materials that the new employee is not familiar with.
- Give or supervise health education for the patients.
- Supervise serving and eating meals by the patients making sure that those on special diets gets correct food.
- As well as many other duties.
Education and Experience
- Holder of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery obtained from an accredited institution recognised by Lesotho Nursing Council
- Must be having a valid practising license issued by Lesotho Nursing Council.
