Paray Mission Hospital is a Roman Catholic Church health facility situated in the administrative centre of Thaba-Tseka District. The hospital operates under the leadership of the Archbishop of Maseru and is managed by the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa in collaboration with the Christian Health Association of Lesotho (CHAL). We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Medical Officer to join our team.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Medical Superintendent, the Medical Officer will be responsible for patient management, coordination of public health activities within the Health Service Area (HSA), and overall management of hospital health services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management of assigned hospital wards, conduct ward rounds, and actively participate in general rounds.
- Perform physical examinations, arrange routine investigations, and document detailed patient notes as per hospital protocols.
- Maintain records and registers as directed by the Medical Superintendent.
- Ensure continuous patient care by reviewing and refining clinical management plans initiated by interns.
- Evaluate patient symptoms, determine appropriate diagnoses, and conduct necessary research where required.
- Prescribe appropriate medications based on patients’ medical histories.
- Provide guidance on disease prevention and health promotion.
- Prepare and present monthly reports on ward cases to the Medical Superintendent.
- Coordinate clinical presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Possess a strong understanding of bone-related medical conditions and treatments, including fracture management and musculoskeletal health.
- Remain on hospital premises during duty hours unless granted permission by the Deputy Medical Superintendent or Medical Superintendent.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- A valid MB.ChB/MD degree
- Registration with the Lesotho Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy Council
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and patient care skills
